The lighthouse on Farallon Island is just an empty shell of its former self, and is totally inaccessible to the public. Access is restricted to Point Reyes Bird Observatory (PRBO) scientists who have provided a year-round stewardship to wildlife on these islands. Without human interaction, the island is left to provide a critical habitat for the largest concentration of breeding seabirds within the contiguous United States. The Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary is one of the richest ecosystems on the planet. The first order Fresnel lens is on display at the Argonaut Hotel across from the Hyde Street Pier in San Francisco. |
