The original Santa Barbara Lighthouse was a showplace that was enjoyed by the community, and respected by the Lighthouse Board. Meticulously maintained for forty years by Julia F. Williams, one of California's great light-keepers, the lighthouse was destroyed during an Earthquake in 1925. The lighthouse was ultimately replaced with a metal tower which is located across the street from the lights original location. Still in use, this tower sits in the backyard of a USCG housing unit and is not open to the public. The tower is visible from the bridge in La Mesa Neighborhood Park. |
